Passing bicycles in a motor vehicle
The California Vehicle Code prohibits crossing a double-yellow line to pass a bicycle. But often, crossing the line is the only safe way to pass as illustrated below.

Many states have exceptions, California does not.
How about just tail the bikes until the lane widens? The vehicles behind you probably won’t share your patience and will pass both you and the bikes (unsafely).
